Urban Tree Management: Services

Updated: Aug 5, 2020

Arborology WA Arboricultural Consultants can provide, monthly, bi-monthly or quarterly reports. We can help manage, assess and inspect trees, providing tree surveys, protection strategies, planning and general tree selection advice for green spaces.

Our tree management plans incorporate our three main priorities: maximising the cost-effectiveness of tree management; ensuring tree health and associated benefits; and reducing tree-related risk from tree and limb failure to industry recognised standards.

Hence our slogan: Structurally Sound and Healthy Trees for Tomorrow

We provide tree management in three stages, which are elaborated on below:

(1) the initial Arboricultural Survey and Inventory Report, (2) regular Tree Management Reports, and (3) actionable Tree Care Plans.

1. Arboricultural Survey and Inventory Report

The objective of this kind of report is to provide an overarching survey of the trees on a campus/green-space/building-site. Each tree is individually inspected and the results are included in a tree inventory.

The tree inventory is an itemised tree list that includes some/all of the following details:

  • A tree number and its corresponding location on a site/campus map

  • The tree’s GPS location (longitude and latitude)

  • The tree’s botanical and common name

  • Trees height and canopy spread measurements

  • Number of stems per tree

  • Trees life stage

  • Useful Life Expectancy - projected age and longevity of tree

  • The health and structural condition of the tree

  • Tree Risk Assessment to assess liability and risk of harm to people, property or vehicles

  • The trees valuation

  • Cultural, historical, ecological or habitat significance

  • List of tree problems, if any

  • Recommendations for tree works, if any

2. Tree Management Reports:

The goal of this plan is to utilise the local government or school/ campus tree inventory to develop a plan for restoration of the tree canopy by analysing the age/ longevity of the tree canopy, species diversity, educational value and future tree canopy planning.

A tree management plan can be provided which may include:

  • Tree selection and planting

  • Fertilising schedules

  • Watering programs

  • Tree decay detection

  • Declining tree removal

  • Tree pruning schedules.

  • Drone Aerial inspections

  • Tree Root Mapping

  • Protection of trees before and during building construction

3. Tree Care Plans

The purpose of the Tree Care Plan is to establish a clear set of policies and procedures for managing of the local government or School/ Campus urban canopy. The objectives are to maximise the health and benefits of both individual trees and the urban canopy as a whole. However, in order to maximise these benefits trees must be properly managed. The overall goal of the plan is to ensure a safe, attractive, and sustainable local government or School/ Campus Urban Green Canopy Space for tomorrow. The Tree Care Plan aims to lay out the steps necessary to achieve such management.

The Tree Care Plan details:

  • Plans purpose

  • Who’s Responsible

  • Tree advisory committee

  • Tree selection and planting

  • Arboricultural practices

  • Protection and preservation procedures

  • Goal and targets,

  • Prohibited Arboricultural practices

  • Tree salvage program

  • Tree Risk Assessment
